Maurine’s Story

Losing her father at a young age gave Maurine a sense of purpose. After earning her degree in medical biology and starting a promising healthcare career in Haiti, threats to her safety forced her to leave home in search of a better future.

When she arrived in the United States, Maurine’s journey was difficult. She worked long hours in the fields before finding hotel work in Orlando, where a friend introduced her to Jobs Partnership. She regained her confidence and direction in the LifeWorks program, connecting with AdventHealth and Valencia College to earn her Medical Office Specialist certificate and later become a Patient Care Technician.

Now a Licensed Practical Nurse, Maurine says Jobs Partnership came at the perfect time: “Many people come here thinking they just have to work and survive,” she says, “but Jobs Partnership gives us a second chance … When you move forward, you’re not alone.
